7 October 2008 JMTBA Looks Back on Accomplishments
The chairman of the Japan Machine Tool Builders’ Association (JMTBA), Kenichi Nakamura, is looking back on his third year of service with a sense of accomplishiment. Nakamura, 60, who was re-elected at the 28th regular general meeting of the association in May 2007, has undertaken wide-ranging efforts on behalf of the Japanese machine tool industry since he first became chairman of the JMTBA in 2005. Prior to attaining the position of chairman, Nakamura served the association as chair of the Comprehensive Planning Committee, the Financial Affairs and Taxation Committee, and the Markets Committee in succession, with a stint as deputy chairman between 1999 and 2005. The JMTBA organizes the Japan International Machine Tool Fair (JIMTOF). JIMTOF 2008 takes place at the end of this month, running from October 30 through November 4. Nakamura has been president of Nakamura-Tome Precision Industries Co. Ltd. since May 1988, having previously served as a company director from November 1976. Nakamura-Tome has a large number of business facilities in Japan and overseas. It employs 430 people, and its net sales amounted to ¥21.5 billion (about €92 million) in FY 2007. In addition to NC lathes, turning centres, and other machine tools, the company emphasizes the production and sales of high-tech industry-oriented optical instruments, such as fully automatic lens edgers and LCD glass–processing machines. Machine tools account for approximately 80% of the company’s current production. Nakamura has been active in areas beyond the machine tool industry. He has chaired a number of organizations in his native prefecture of Ishikawa, including an association for the development of occupational skills and the inventors’ association.
