Now part of Nikon, Metris has undergone a change of corporate name, becoming Nikon Metrology N.V. Under this Nikon brand, Nikon Instruments and Metris gain synergistic benefits with respect to technology, marketing and services, enhancing their ability to deliver innovative metrology products efficiently to a global customer base. Nikon Metrology blends Metris’s innovation leadership in micrometrology with a globally recognized brand. The new organization can offer a complete metrology offering, with Nikon 2.5D vision measuring systems complementing Metris optical and mechanical 3D metrology solutions. In addition, Nikon’s strong corporate position guarantees futureproof investments and a secured growth path for continuing product development and innovation. Nikon Metrology has an established worldwide marketing, sales and services organization that is strong and well balanced. “We are delighted to be able to trade under the flag of the powerful Nikon brand, facilitating and accelerating the global rollout of our optical metrology revolution,” states Bart Van Coppenolle, the founder of Metris and now CEO of Nikon Metrology. “Together, we will strengthen our leadership position as an optical metrology innovator, and firmly extend trade with our global customers and business partners.” Metris has always been at the forefront in the field of contactless 3D inspection, introducing such micrometrology innovations as digital 3D laser scanners, X-ray metrology with industrial computer tomography, and laser radar and iGPS for large-scale metrology applications. For its part, Nikon Instruments, has been a market leader in optical instrumentation, offering products spanning an accuracy range extending from several microns down to the submicron level. Nikon Metrology products will be marketed across Asia, Europe and the USA. The new brand made its exhibition debut at the European Productronica 09 trade show in Munich, Germany, in November, creating market visibility for the new organization and showing for the first time its widened range of metrology products.
