Matsuura Machinery plc recently received a testimonial whose value as a customer endorsement would seem to be hardly beatable.
“Our 21-year-old Matsuura MC500 is still a fantastic machine, which underlines the build quality and longevity of Matsuura products—and the main reason why Qualtronic’s milling machine shop is solely populated with Matsuura CNC products,” wrote Ian Heaton of Qualtronic. The company bought the vertical machining centre originally to machine aerospace components, and now deploys it to produce components for customers in the medical, oil and gas, and electronics markets, as well.
The machine is still tasked with high-accuracy work and trusted to manage tight tolerances. Typically, it is cutting an average of 60 hours per week. Still with its original ball screws, this MC500 has been significantly upgraded only by bringing the spindle up to current-day Matsuura tolerances and by adding an x1 axis drive board.
Matsuura UK says it has invested heavily in its after-sales support departments and personnel for many years because their customers tend to seek long-term partnerships with their machine tool suppliers. This partnership emphasis is the core business value at Matsuura, according to John Jones, Matsuura’s UK managing director.
Qualtronic has consistently upgraded its machining capabilities over the years by investing in the latest Matsuura CNC technology. The company’s investment programme has resulted in constant improvements in work processing, tolerances, quality, and the all-important return on investment. Its enhanced machining capabilities and capacity have won many new orders.
But perhaps Qualtronic’s endorsement is beatable after all. Its MC500 is by no means the oldest Matsuura still performing critical machining duties in the UK. Matsuura knows of aerospace industry customers that still employ machines from its early MC Vertical product ranges. These centres are approaching their 27th year of service.
