16 December 2006 Surfware Welcomes New CEO
The board of directors of Surfware Inc., the developer of SURFCAM® CAD/CAM systems, announced earlier this month the appointment of Terry J. Sorensen as the company’s chief executive officer and president. Since joining Surfware in May 2006, Sorensen has focused on streamlining operations, building a solid and competitive product line, and positioning the company globally in the machine shop marketplace. The new CEO has more than 30 years of senior management experience. Praising his business insight, the board called Sorensen “a visionary of change.” The executive’s strong technical and international background and track record of corporate growth were cited, and his creativity, market sense, and vision were credited as enabling the development of novel solutions to business problems. Before coming to Surfware, Sorensen was CEO and president of Acuscape International, a 3D medical imaging software company. He earned a physics degree from the University of California at Los Angeles and an MBA from California State University, Northridge. He says that his first “real” job was working in a machine shop making component parts for pneumatic hand tools used in the aerospace industry. Surfware’s SURFCAM, designed for the CNC programming of 2- through 5-axis mills and lathes, is used in machine shops worldwide for mechanical design, surface modelling, reverse engineering, prototyping, mould making, pattern making, and production machining. The global user base includes leading manufacturers in the aerospace, defense, automotive, consumer electronics, industrial equipment, and medical products industries.
