5 September 2007 Delcam Has Great Sales Half-Year
Delcam plc, the globally successful computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software specialist, achieved its best-ever half-year sales in the first six months of 2007. Sales through June 30 were £14.5 million ($29 million), nearly 10% more than the £13.2 million ($26.4 million) realized in the first six months of last year. The announcement of its record-setting first-half success appeared in Delcam’s interim report for the current year. According to the company, the increase came mainly from the addition of the PartMaker and Crispin families of software to the Delcam range. The deterioration in the US dollar exchange rate adversely affected profitability, however. Profit before tax for the first half of 2007 was £1.26 million as against £1.31 million for the same period last year. Delcam reinforced its commitment to customers with a further increase in spending on research and development. R&D expenditure grew from £3.7 million ($7.4 million) in the first half of 2006 to £4.1 million ($8.2 million) for the opening six months of 2007. “In my first statement as chairman, I am pleased to report that the business continues its strong growth despite the impact of the declining US dollar,” said Delcam chairman Peter Miles in commenting on the early 2007 results issued through the report. “We are seeing the benefits of the acquisitions of two software ranges we made in 2006 come through. The new ranges add additional breadth to our product offering, and we are in a good position to leverage future sales growth through our global distribution network.” The report refers also to Renishaw plc’s investment in Delcam this spring, as well as to the latest publication of CIMdata rankings, which shows Delcam consolidating its position as the world’s leading specialist supplier of NC software and service and being the largest supplier of CAM software to the global mould, tool, and die industry. The normal yearly business pattern for Delcam is to achieve higher sales and profits in the second half of the year than in the first half, according to the report.
