October MassPlastics Already
Doing Well in Exhibitor Total

The rolling hillsides seems more like a setting for a county fair—but for MassPlastics, the site in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, is just fine.

Those who have not attended this regional show will be surprised to see the many prominent names that exhibit. MassPlastics takes place every 18 months and is produced by the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce. The next event takes place October 22–23 at the Best Western Royal Plaza Trade Center. The previous trade fair in March 2002 had at least 250 exhibitors and attracted over 5,000 attendees. According to show manager Jim Adams, this makes MassPlastics the largest plastics show in the Northeast. "The show's success is due in part to the fact there's a lot going on," says Adams. "I think people are always happy to participate in a busy show."

Space for MassPlastics '03 is more than 80% sold and attendees are preregistering every day. Adams also attributes the show's success to its manageable size and affordability. Its central location, where there is a high level of plastics manufacturing—Fitchburg is about 50 miles west of Boston—is also a plus. "Being in Fitchburg brings you closer to the industry and where it was born," says Pattie Lasonde of Diversified Services in Plastics. "It's amazing how much the show has grown, probably tripling in size, since we first started attending."

Mark Lavoie of The Marlee Companies echoes that upbeat experience as he describes the high level of attendance. As an exhibitor, he makes the crucial observation that you "get the owners of businesses coming through, decision makers, a lot of purchasing people, a lot of shop floor people. It's a very diverse group."
