17 February 2010 Four New Haas HTECs in Russian Federation Make 12 Total
Haas Automation Europe N.V. has opened four new Haas Technical Education Centres (HTECs) in Russia: two in Moscow and one each in the federal republics of Dagestan and Tatarstan. The facilities were launched in December with the collaboration of the Russian Haas Factory Outlet (HFO), a division of Abamet Ltd. Haas and Abamet have together established 12 HTECs in Russia, reflecting a strong commitment to developing the next generation of machine tool engineers in the region. A total of 260 people attended the four launches, including local industrial and governmental dignitaries, HTEC industry partners and print and television reporters. The celebrations started on December 2 in Georgievsk in Dagestan, an important educational centre with five vocational schools and 15 universities. The new HTEC at College Integral Georgievsk specializes in training mechanical engineers and metalworkers for the electric power industry, a big regional employer. The next two openings took place in the Moscow area on December 3 and 4 at the Polytechnic Colleges number 42 (in Moscow itself) and number 50 (in the Zelenograd district). Both colleges specialize in economics and metalworking (including CNC machine tooling), along with other technological subjects. Zelenograd is home to the Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology. The final Russian HTEC launch of 2009 took place on December 7 at the Kazan Energy College in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan and seventh-largest city in the Russian Federation. The college specializes in training experts in the field of power generation, including turning machine operators and milling specialists for repair work. Kazan, too, is an important educational centre, with some 28 vocational technical colleges and 55 institutes of higher education. The city also hosts the scientific centre for the Russian Academy of Sciences. Commenting on the recent spate of HTEC launches, Haas Europe managing director Peter Hall says, “Companies around the world face great difficulties in recruiting CNC operators with the right competencies. These HTECs show students that precision engineering is an exciting world with well-paid jobs.” For further information: Haas Automation Europe N.V.
