A new on-line community for strategic interaction with suppliers, customers and peers will enable registered participants in trade shows sponsored by the Society of the Plastics Industry to develop business opportunities on a 24/7 basis from anywhere in the world. Trade-named PlasticsMatch, the community will become accessible on August 9 at www.plasticsusa.org/PlasticsMatch to those who have registered to attend or exhibit at SPI's Plastics USA 2004 show, which takes place September 2830 at Chicago's McCormick Place.
Employing Expo Exchange's SmartEvent® predictive software powered by BDMetrics Inc., the PlasticsMatch community operates by: drawing on the wealth of demographic information input by thousands of show participants at the time of registration; matching people with common or complementary interests in specific markets, technologies, products or business functions; and providing each person with a range of available matches. By mutual consent, matched individuals can communicate electronically well in advance of the show, at the event itself and during a post-show follow-up period.
Every registered show participant receives a secure, personalized Web portal that enables him or her to discover others in the community with relevant interests, exchange information with them, set up appointments at the show, perform initial research and even start business negotiations. As the number of show registrants increases, the SmartEvent software processes the incoming data and feeds updated information to participants' private portals. Once the community goes live, any registered participant for Plastics USA 2004 can access it by visiting the show website at www.plasticsusa.org and selecting the PlasticsMatch link. SPI has contracted with BDMetrics to administer the PlasticsMatch community for Plastics USA 2004 and expects to deploy PlasticsMatch capability on its website for NPE 2006 (scheduled for June 1923, 2006, in Chicago), according to Jordan L. Morgenstern, SPI’s vice president of trade shows.
"While a wide range of non-plastics expositions have successfully employed SmartEvent software, the PlasticsMatch community is unique among trade shows in our industry," says Morgenstern. "The powerful analytical engine driving the PlasticsMatch network will increase the value of event participation by enabling industry professionals to interact strategically even before they meet on the exhibit floor. As a result, our shows will yield a greater number of valuable contacts and generate a higher level of profitable business activity."
Plastics USA 2004 will take place on Level 3 of the East Building (also known as the Lakeside Center) at McCormick Place. The triennial event is sponsored by SPI. The Society of Plastics Engineers will organize the Plastics USA 2004 Conference and other educational programs concurrent with the show. More than 350 exhibiting companies will occupy 65,000 ft² (6,040 m²) of net exhibit space at Plastics USA 2004 and attract more than 10,000 visitorsprimarily from the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as Central and South America.
